About Us

Welcome to the Hampton Roads/EBONACT chapter website. The Hampton Roads EBONACT chapter of big was established in 1981 as an educational, charitable, scientific, and literary organization. The EBONACT chapter serves to promote equity in all aspects of American life, excellence in public service, and opportunity for all Americans. The Blacks In Government Hampton Roads EBONACT Chapter, is a local chapter which is based at Fort Eustis, VA servicing the areas of Newport News, Hampton, and Williamsburg. Blacks In Government was organized in 1975 and incorporated as a non-profit organization under the District of Columbia jurisdiction in 1976. BIG has been a national response to the need for African Americans in public service to organize around issues of mutual concern and use their collective strength to confront workplace and community issues.

Goals & Objectives

Our chapter's main goals are to provide annual outreach programs throughout the community such as General Stanford Elementary School Art Supplies Donation, Thanksgiving Basket to a Fort Eustis Military Family, Christmas Toys to Hampton Social Services Foster Care Program, Oratorical Contest w/monetary prizes to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners, Scholarship to one or two High School Seniors, Community Service Events, and conduct an annual Carole Joy fundraiser.
