CHAPTER

Presidential Greeting

Thank you for visiting the GAO-USACE Chapter webpage. Our chapter is dedicated to representing the interests of African Americans in GAO and the USACE. The representation of our members from mission and mission support organizations in each agency provides us with a broad perspective of employment issues.  The work of our chapter has helped to shape employment policies and practices at GAO, and was a significant factor in the initiation of a 2008 study by the Ivy Group of performance disparities between African American analyst staff and analysts of other racial groups in GAO. We work with agency management in GAO and USACE to ensure that highly qualified African Americans are recruited from the nation’s finest colleges and universities, extended offers of employment in various professional positions, and provided with challenging opportunities for professional growth. While our first priority is working for the betterment of African Americans, we also work with other employee groups to ensure the rights of all employees. The chapter annually sponsors activities for African American History Month in February, which features the popular oratorical contest for Washington, D.C. high school students, and workshops and panels throughout the year to bring awareness to employment, social, and health issues facing African Americans. The chapter organization also sponsors annual food drives for less fortunate Washington, D.C. families.

I invite you to learn more about our chapter and BIG through our monthly information sharing meetings, held the first Tuesday of every month, from 12:00-1:00 P.M. At these meetings, you will find a welcoming group of African Americans who collectively offer professional depth at all levels of the agency that can help to guide you in your professional growth. I hope that you will consider joining our chapter. If I can be of assistance to you, please do not hesitate to contact me. Remember to always think BIG, dream BIG, and do it BIG.

With warmest regards,

Danielle Giese
