SUBJECT: BIG National Historian/Librarian Position Open for Expressions of Interest
With major milestones in our Blacks In Government (BIG) history fast approaching, I am seeking expressions of interest to serve as the BIG National/Historian on the National Executive Committee (NEC). Appointed by the National President, the National Historian/ Librarian should have a passion for BIG’s history and purpose with a strong desire to educate our BIG members and supporters on our rich legacy. As stated in the BIG National Constitution, the National Historian/Librarian will take the lead in preparing a narrative account of the organization’s activities to become a permanent part of our organization’s documented history.
Importantly, the new National Historian/Librarian will work closely with me on my plans to create a BIG history reading room in our Gerald R. Reed National Headquarters Building with plans to have that room open to our members by the beginning of 2025, our landmark 50th year. For this room to be most impactful, we will put a call out later this year for BIG member donations of artifacts that many of you have collected over our organizations many years of serving black government employees, our families, and indeed our communities. From the first National Training Institute registration bags and photos from those early events to the first editions of our BIG Reporter, the new National Historian/Librarian will work hand in hand with me on this important endeavor to preserve and showcase our BIG history.
